How Lexicon Builds Literacy Skills

Our approach combines diagnostic assessment, targeted instruction, guided practice, and regular progress monitoring to move students forward at the right pace.

1

Diagnostic Reading Assessment

A 30-minute assessment measures reading fluency (words correct per minute), comprehension level (Lexile score), vocabulary range, and writing mechanics. Results determine the entry point for each program.

2

Guided Instruction with Modeled Examples

Instructors demonstrate strategies using authentic texts: annotation methods, summarization techniques, close reading protocols, and pre-writing organizers. Students apply these strategies to progressively complex passages.

3

Independent Practice with Feedback

Weekly reading assignments and writing prompts are submitted through the student portal. Instructors return marked-up feedback within 48 hours, identifying strengths, errors, and specific areas for revision.

4

Monthly Progress Reports

Families receive data on words-per-minute growth, Lexile score changes, vocabulary quiz averages, and writing rubric scores. Reports include specific next steps for continued improvement at home.
